The Broadloom Complexity
Of all flooring types, broadloom carpet is the most mathematically difficult to estimate. You cannot simply calculate the square footage of a room and add 10%. Because carpet is manufactured in fixed widths (typically 12', 13'6", or 15'), a carpet flooring estimate requires a highly specialized skill called "roll optimization" or "nesting."
If you have a room that is 14x14, a 12' roll will require a seam. If you estimate incorrectly, you might end up with massive amounts of unusable drop-off waste, or worse, you might order too little and have to wait weeks for a new roll that might not match the original dye lot.
Our dedicated carpet flooring cost estimator team uses advanced digital software to virtually "cut" the carpet from the roll before your installer ever touches a knife. We strategically place seams in low-visibility areas (away from doorways, major pivot points, and direct natural light) to ensure a flawless installation while simultaneously minimizing material waste.
The Carpet Takeoff Package
We deliver everything you need to order and install with confidence:
- Roll Cut SheetsA detailed breakdown of exactly how to cut the master roll into specific room lengths (e.g., Cut 1: 12'x14', Cut 2: 12'x4').
- Seam Diagrams (PDF)Color-coded blueprints showing your installers exactly where every seam should be placed.
- Sundries CalculationExact quantities for carpet pad/cushion, tack strip (linear footage), seam tape, and adhesive for double-stick or direct-glue down applications.
Global Carpet Estimating
We provide localized carpet flooring cost estimator services to contractors globally.
USA & Canada: We estimate in Imperial measurements (Square Yards/Square Feet). We are deeply familiar with North American commercial specifications (like double-stick installations in high-traffic corridors) and standard residential stretch-in methods over foam pad.
UK & Australia: We provide highly accurate Metric (Square Meters) takeoffs. We understand the specific regional preference for Gripperrods (tack strip) and high-density rubber crumb underlays commonly specified by architects in the commonwealth markets.
