Can LVT and LVP share one waste factor?
Only if the layout, plank or tile size, and installation method are actually the same. Otherwise write two allowances and two carton calculations.
Tile-format vinyl
| Decision | What to record |
|---|---|
| Module and joint | Record the tile size and whether joints are tight or spaced. A pattern that centers in the room changes the cut at the perimeter. The area percentage has to follow that layout, not a default copied from plank. |
| Adhesive and trowel | Glue-down LVT needs the specified adhesive and trowel. Coverage per gallon comes from that product’s data sheet. Do not invent a universal gallon rate, and do not omit adhesive on a glue-down spec because a different LVP on the job is floating. |
| Where it meets sheet vinyl | Hospitals and schools often switch from LVT in dry rooms to sheet goods in wet rooms. The transition strip and the cove base belong to the wet-room system. Measure the line where the two products meet. |
LVT copies stone or tile in a square module. Treating it as LVP under another name misses the grout-line or tight-joint decision, the pattern match, and whether the specification is glue-down tile rather than a floating plank.
Illustrative only. Use the carton coverage printed on the specified product.

The product instructions say what the tile and the seam can tolerate. The estimate should quote the specified product, not a category claim.
